Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar Noé, Rachel Brosnahan, Amy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Roadside Attractions' new comedy In a World... is now in theatres, and Kicking the Seat has teamed up with Partnershub to bring you the "In a World..." Contest!

This hilarious and heart-felt film stars Lake Bell (No Strings Attached, “Children’s Hospital”) as a struggling vocal coach who strikes it big in the cutthroat world of movie-trailer voiceovers; only to find herself in direct competition with the industry’s reigning king—her father!

Written and directed by Bell, who won the Sundance 2013 Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award for the script, In a World... also stars indie-comedy heavyweights Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation"), Rob Corddry,  (Hot Tub Time Machine), Demetri Martin ("Important Things with Demetri Martin"), and Ken Marino ("Veronica Mars").
