Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep275: The Triumph of TRAGEDY (and CRAIG ROBINSON!)

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie get schooled in the ways of modern slasher-dom with a look at Tyler MacIntyre's deep, dark horror/comedy, Tragedy Girls! The guys unpack the kills, crack-ups, and commentary of this brilliant indie about two high-schoolers whose social media empire hinges on their investigation of a murderous local psychopath. In the mother of all twists, the girls' incessant blogging and Tweeting turns out to be a devious cover for their own grisly exploits!

And because this is a special "Diamond" episode (meaning there's a "75" in the show number--woo-hoo!), you'll hear some thoughts on Tragedy Girls from one of its stars: the hilarious Craig Robinson! Listen in to hear what the Office alum wants to do next, and to find out why Ian had to use the "Bleep" button for the first time in KtS Podcast history!

Episode 275 would love if you "liked" it!
