Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep271: Embracing the Chaos (Joe Lynch Returns!)

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast welcomes back director Joe Lynch to talk about his latest action/horror/comedy, Mayhem (debuting in limited release and on-demand this Friday)! Joe opens up about creative control; chasing down his artistic dreams while intermittently working corporate jobs; and what it was like helping to bring writer Matias Caruso's unique characters to life on screen with the help of actors Steven Yuen and Samara Weaving.

You'll also thrill to yet another reminder that Joe's podcast with Adam Green, "The Movie Crypt", is absolutely essential listening for anyone who claims to be obsessed with movies!

Last but not least, Ian reminds you that Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie will host a special 30th anniversary screening of Predatortonight at Classic Cinemas Elk Grove! Tickets are only five bucks, and your admission includes a Q&A with David after the movie!

Episode 271 loves nail guns, and ain't afraid to use 'em!
