Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep199: The LOGAN Act

The Kicking the Seat Podcast goes to war over Logan in today's bloody, action-packed episode! Ian and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie square off with very different opinions about Hugh Jackman's "last" run at the character that put him on the map. Is Logan the comic-book masterpiece everyone says it is? Or is it simply a repackaged collection of old issues? The guys hold nothing back in this thorough examination of James Mangold's R-rated, adamantium-grade blockbuster!

Also, Ian talks about Marco Beltrami's Logan soundtrack (available now from Lakeshore Records); the Tomatometer; the 89th Oscars, and two sure-to-be amazing events taking place at the Music Box Theatre, starting next week.

Episode 199 is the best there is at what it does!
