Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep237: Web or Grill?

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast teams up with Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie for a look at the third big-screen reboot of everyone's favorite web-slinger in fifteen years, Spider-Man: Homecoming! Does Tom Holland's portrayal of radioactive crime-fighter/high school science whiz make the grade, or should Marvel go back to detention? Ian and David offer some passionately diverse opinions in this spoilerific conversation!

You'll also hear some thoughts on Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming soundtrack; Dolby's new state-of-the-art cinema experience; and another reminder of your patriotic duty to check out the Music Box Theatre's 70MM Film Festival!

Episode 237 won't leave you hanging!
