Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep256: They're Gonna Make it After All!

This week, the Kicking the Seat Podcast talks about Lena Khan's The Tiger Hunter with HollywoodChicago.com's Pat “The Über Critic” McDonald! This heartwarming family comedy about an Indian immigrant looking for success and love really worked for one of the guys--but not so much the other. The ensuing conversation offers a lively, fascinating, and at times bawdy look at how we watch movies and perceive themes.

Also, Ian teases several cool goings-on in Chicago next week, including his coverage of the upcoming red carpet premiere for Jennifer Reeder's comedy, Signature Move, and his appearance on the Now Playing Network's "Fresh Perspective" podcast!

All this, plus a bona fide act of God await in this audacious installment!

Episode 256 keeps up appearances, but has nothing to prove!
