Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep359: Late Screening: The MARVELOUS Ben Arrow!

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast and Cole Rush of ColeTries.com and The Quill to Live return with an extra-spooky edition of "Late Screening"! That's right, the guys discuss George A. Romero's 1968 genre-defining zombie masterpiece, Night of the Living Dead. Listen in to find out why horror isn't really Cole's thing; why Ian thinks the film still holds up as an unbeatable horror staple; and what other media they both recommend to get your ambulatory-undead fix!

Plus: Ian reports back from Friday's Actors Training Center fundraiser, including an exclusive (and very brief) interview with Emmy-and-Golden Globe-winning star of Amazon Prime's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Rachel Brosnahan--and her ATC founder/teacher/manager/friend, Carole Dibo!
