Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep362: No Time for Losers

Today, Nick Allen of RogerEbert.com and The Hollywood Reporter returns to the Kicking the Seat Podcast for a look at Bryan Singer's Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody! Is the movie a beautiful mess, or just a messy ol' mess? And how do the casting and PG-13 rating help or hurt  its chances to turn on a new generation of fans to the 70's operatic rock quartet? Ian and Nick dive into a movie that they begrudgingly disagree on, in a wide-ranging discussion that contains an ungodly amount of Third Eye Blind references.

Also, Ian talks with filmmaker Gabe Polsky about his phenomenal new sports documentary, In Search of Greatness; raves about The Criterion Collection's majestic new Princess Bride Blu-ray; and conjurs up a tease of Monday's Suspiria episode!

Episode 362 wants to ride its bicycle!
