Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep293: The Paraquel PARADOX

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie open up a portal into an alien dimension in which the world appreciates the minor masterpiece that is The Cloverfield Paradox! This direct-to-Netflix prequel to Matt Reeves' smash 2008 found-footage monster movie is not the catastrophe you've heard it is--and the guys break down the backlash piece by snarky piece.

Also, this packed installment sees coffee-fueled commentary on the new trailers for Solo: A Star Wars Story and Deadpool 2; a few words about Kathleen Turner's 1991 Chicago-style, deep-dish disaster V.I. Warshawski (which hits Blu-ray next Tuesday, courtesy of Kino Lorber); a tribute to character actor extraordinaire John Mahoney; and our penultimate plug for next week's Chi-town premiere of Michael Smith's marvelous Mercury in Retrograde!

Episode 293 doesn't need acting lessons, we swear!
