Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep433: Car-isma to Spare

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast races past reason with a look at 2019’s ultimate summer blockbuster, Hobbs & Shaw! David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel and Emmanuel Noisette of Eman's Movie Reviews join Ian for a fast and furious look at the latest globe-trotting, property-damaging escapades of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, whose characters must put their differences aside in order to stop a cybernetically enhanced terrorist.

Yes, that’s actually what this movie’s about.

This spoilerific round table includes a look at how Hobbs & Shaw stacks up to the rest of the Fast and the Furious series; how the writing may just be smarter than you think; and thoughts on the movie’s box office prospects (Hobbs & Shawis predicted to have one of the highest grossing opening weekends for a summer film).

Episode 433 is still all about family!
