Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep279: I Did Naaaaaht!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie enter The Room, and are forever changed! The guys talk about James Franco's surprisingly touching new comedy, The Disaster Artist, and the weird cycle of art imitating life imitating art. If you haven't seen The Disaster Artist (which is now playing in Chicago, and opens wide this Friday, November 8th), feel free to check back in when you're sufficiently ready to handle spoilers.

Also, Ian dishes out some homework for Wednesday's special Mercury in Retrograde episode, including David's conversation with writer/director Michael Glover Smith, and A Movie Guy Leo Brady's fireside chat with star Najarra Townsend! Join us here in a couple days for Ian and David's in-depth conversation, in which Michael and Najarra delve into the making of one of 2017's very best films!

Episode 279 is your future husband!
