Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep202: Blood in the Watercooler

The Kicking the Seat Podcast celebrates "Take a Blowtorch to Work Day" with a look at the new Blumhouse thriller, The Belko Experiment! Ian and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie really dug Greg McLean's office-set Battle Royale, even though it was a thoroughly unpleasant experience.

Do comparisons to Office Space really go beyond the casting of John C. McGinley? What elevates James Gunn's script from other Blumhouse horror films? And should this movie be franchised? These answers (and more) await in this thoroughly researched, double-spaced, and collated report!*

Also, Ian talks about Shout! Factory's new Red DawnCollector's Edition Blu-ray, and teases tomorrow's, um, "animated" episode.

Episode 202 is fresh out of PTO, so let's clock in!
