Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep203: Spell Check

Once upon a time, in a magical, far-away wonderland called The Golden Nugget Restaurant and Pancake House, two hopeless dreamers named Ian and David drank coffee, ate pie, and discussed Bill Condon's live-action remake of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It was a snowy, blustery evening, full of fond memories, mild disagreements, and the breaking of a powerful spell that one of our intrepid adventurers had fallen under.

Presented here for your enjoyment is chapter two-hundred-and-three of the Kicking the Seat Enchanted Magicks Story Time Hour, which includes a reminder to peruse the equally delightful works of one David J. Fowlie, proprietor of Keeping it Reel.
